The Area

There are numerous places to fish in the local area whether looking for sea fishing or coarse fishing.

Fishing boats for sea anglers can be chartered from Looe or Polperro. Gribben Head and Pencarrow Head provide good rock fishing. Conger, mackerel, wrasse and pollack can be caught from most beaches, particularly Cawsand, Whitsand Bay, Seaton, Downderry and Plaidy. Looe is also the home of the Shark Angling Club of Great Britain.

The local area has some excellent waters for freshwater fishing. The River Fowey is a late salmon river and is also good for sea trout fishing and some trout fishing. Seaton River to the east of Looe can be fished for brown trout and the Tamar River supports fairly large trout and there is a good run of salmon and sea trout.

Siblyback Lake is stocked with rainbow trout.

Colliford Reservoir offers traditional fly fishing for brown trout and is regarded as Cornwall’s premier brown trout fishery.
